“Never let a rigid itinerary discourage you from an unexpected adventure.”
― Josiah Bancroft, Senlin Ascends
August has been a super busy month. My parents were here for a week, and we got so much stuff done! My kid had his preschool “graduation” aka he’s moving to a different school, but it means he’s on summer break for two weeks! We spent part of that visiting Minneapolis which I might talk about next week. On top of that transition, he’s having trouble with bed time and learning new routines in general so every day we’re all learning new ways to regulate our emotions.
Some stuff I’ve loved online |
Hacking Monster energy - A pretty interesting write up on the Monster energy corporate site and some basic misses on their security Sending messages by birdsong - This is wild and the mind that came up with this idea is a fascinating thing. |

Part of my busy August was traveling to Worldcon 2025 in Seattle. The Worldcon is where the Hugo award is presented, along with several days of events and panels all related to in some fashion the sci-fi/literary community. I wish I had been able to see more, but unfortunately my schedule really only allowed me to be there Saturday. Still I got to go to several interesting panels including a workshop on using a woodlathe to create dice boxes. Unfortunately I found the actual Hugo award ceremony lacking. As a fan of award shows and ceremonies of all styles, this felt very unrehearsed and thrown together. There’s been a lot of internet print created on this topic so I won’t retread that, but I hope we can learn lessons off this in preparation for next year.
Thanks for reading!
