“History is a love letter to tyrants written in the blood of the overrun, the forgotten, the expunged!”
― Josiah Bancroft, Arm of the Sphinx

Just writing through global terror after global terror over here.
We had a beautiful Easter weekend, and even though my allergies are kicking in, I was able to spend a lot of time outside. I have a long list of workshop projects I want to get started on, and even a spare hour here and there, but for some reason can’t unblock myself mentally. I go out to the shop and do some cleaning and rearranging and puttering but somehow am unable to move forward on the actual making of things. I hope I can keep at it, but it feels a little demoralizing the more time goes on without making anything.

Some stuff I’ve loved online

Cosmic Odometer - An app to show you how far you’ve traveled since you were born.

Booklover’s Burlesque - If you’re in the Portland, Oregon area this weekend come check out this weekend of Burlesque shows that are themed around all sorts of bookish events.

The Perfect Neighbor 2025 - Netflix

Police bodycam footage reveals how a long-running neighborhood dispute turned fatal in this documentary about fear, prejudice and Stand Your Ground laws.

I’ve been delaying watching this for a while, because the topic is heavy, the world is heavy, and I wanted to be able to talk to my wife about it afterwards. Well we finally sat down last week and watched this. It is a for sure difficult watch, but I think an important one. Even though it is almost all edited from public footage captured by bodycams, interview, or court room footage, it still manages to craft a narrative that packs a force. This story definitely has a side it takes and a point it wants to get across, but I’m not sure it has to work very hard to tell that story.
I really appreciated having someone to mull the details over after, and would definitely recommend you watch this soon.

Thanks for reading!
